FACT
is a nonprofit
association of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics,
secular humanists, rationalists, skeptics and other non-theists. Members are critical thinking individuals who prefer to
determine truth by replacing
authority, tradition and superstition, with reason, logic and evidence.
History
In
early 1990, two discussion groups were started by Catherine Fahringer and
Beni T. Dean. The groups had mixed success but together were able to
adopt a first set of Rules & Bylaws on September 17, 1990. This was the
official beginning of the Secular Humanist Association of San Antonio.
Then, in January of 1999, the membership elected to change the name to
the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas (FACT). Today the
association is composed of a dedicated group of freethinkers working hard
to achieve objectives of great importance.
Mission
The Mission of the
Freethinkers Association of Central Texas is to increase public awareness of
the benefits of freethought and support causes that employ reasoned and
scientific solutions to serious problems.
Objectives
Our
Objectives are ambitious yet achievable.
Challenge
the encroachment of religion into federal, state and local governments and
eliminate all discriminations and limitations placed upon our civil
liberties.
Expose
the religious dogma responsible for the population explosion, confront all religious activities that cause population
growth, and actively promote practical solutions for population control.
Provide
fellowship and the opportunity to learn, discuss, and share freethought
information through the distribution of incisive educational materials and
focused guest-speaker presentations.
Sponsor
community
projects that provide assistance and support to those in need.
The accomplishment
of
these objectives will require
intelligence, perseverance and courage.

“Freethought
has never said pull down your churches, burn up your creeds,
crucify your savior or reject your god.
No one ever knew a Freethinker to try to make laws to
control people. All
their efforts have been the other way, trying to tear down
laws already made which control by “Thou shalt” and
“thou shalt not.”
